Agriturismo - Azienda Agricola Calatroni
Tradition, expertise… Passions of quality.
We rely on those words for the production philosopy of our farm Azienda Agricola Calatroni. It was established in the first half of the seventies among the hills of Valle Versa, in the very core of Oltrepò Pavese at a height of 150 metres above sea levels. Completely surrounded by its vineyards, that spread on a surface of 15 hectares all covered with vines. Our soils are mostly composed of limestone with some coal veins, so they can ensure a production of excellent grapes both for refreshing white wines and red wines with a great structure. The grape varieties that we grow are the typical varieties of Oltrepò pavese : Riesling, Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio, Moscato, Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara. All those grapes are kept in an agro-ambiental cultivation with a free curtain form of breeding. The maintenance works on the vineyards try to keep the wholeness and roughness of the plants, according to the rules for not causing any damage to nature. Being a family run business there are patron Fausto managing the farm with his wife Marisa and the sons Cristian and Stefano. Everyone of them work both the land and the fermentation thanks to the expertise handed down from the past generations and the knowledge both for agronomic issues and winemaking learnt at school from the sons (oenologist, agricultural technician).
• The Wine Cellar
With “Wine Cellar” we mean the palce where every work on the grapes and the wines takes place, starting from the care for the early details until the marketing of the final product. Azienda Agricola Calatroni can rely on a 800 square meters building with thermal insulating panels of recent construction on the outside. On the inside we have every equipment needed to work our products.
Most of the fermentation vessels are made of stainless steel (AISI 304 and AISI 316) where we take care of every fermentations thanks to the use of a cooling block that allows to proceed with controlled fermentation. The other wine vessels are made of concrete and are basically used as storage tanks for unbottled wine.In the cellar we find also a bottling area, where we bottle the wines we produce in the current year with proper machines (isobaric bottle filling machines); right after we proceed labelling and dressing the bottles. Finally the bottles are packed in their proper boxes and stocked, ready to be sold. In addition, the farm has another building located not far from the main building. It's a farmhouse built at the beginning of 900, where we built our barrique cellar and where we complete the “barrique” process for our wines to lay down.
